VIDEO: Jaco Kriel and other SA news at Gloucester

WATCH as Springbok Jaco Kriel tells Gloucester Rugby TV that he feels like a different player, as he prepares for a big 2019-20 season.

He spoke after his first full pre-season campaign at the Premiership club.

Kriel was a part of the Springbok team that defeated France 3-0 in the mid-year test series in 2017.

Following this series, Kriel took over as captain of the Lions for the rest of the 2017 Super Rugby season after regular captain Warren Whiteley was injured during the test series against the French.

Kriel was ruled out for the rest of 2017 following a shoulder injury at training prior to the first test against New Zealand.

On 30 April 2018, it was announced that Kriel had been released from his contract with the Lions to join up with former coach Johan Ackermann at Gloucester.

The 21-year-old was among five academy players to leave the club at the end of last season and he went back to South Africa over the summer.

However, he has re-joined the squad for training this week, and wrote on Instagram: “Good being back.”

Coetzer first joined Gloucester from the Stormers’ Academy in 2018 and he made four appearances, scoring on his Premiership debut against Sale on the final day of the season.

He was also a regular in the Premiership Rugby Shield competition.

Coetzer can play at fly-half, inside centre or full-back and will bolster Gloucester’s squad ahead of the new season starting next month with the Premiership Rugby Cup when youngsters are traditionally given a chance.
