Wasps boss unhappy despite win
Both sides had a man sent off, with Gloucester wing David Halaifonua and Wasps prop Lorenzo Cittadini each receiving a red card.
Wasps scored a try in each half, the first through Christian Wade and the other a penalty try, with the rest of their points coming via two Ruaridh Jackson conversions and three long-range penalties kicked by Elliot Daly.
All Gloucester had to show for their efforts at Coventry's Ricoh Arena was a lone penalty from Scotland scrumhalf Greig Laidlaw.
Come the hour mark, Wasps – who moved to the Midlands town of Coventry last year after failing to establish a Premiership base in or around their traditional north London home – were in complete control.
But that was not good enough for former British and Irish Lions prop Young.
"We are creating opportunities but our conversion rate isn't good enough," he said.
"We would have taken this result before the game. We had the game won after 60 minutes but we didn't kick on," added Young after a match that left eighth-placed Wasps ahead of Gloucester on points difference in the 12-team Premiership table.
Gloucester boss David Humphreys said he had "no complaints" about dismissal of Tongan wing Halaifonua for a high tackle on Wasps lock Bradley Davies.
"We just couldn't score," lamented Humphreys. "We were on the other end of a penalty try award and should have definitely had one from a scrum in the second half but that wouldn't have changed the result.
"Large parts of our game were good. Our set piece was excellent and it's ironic that the parts we were good at last year fell away today whereas some of the weaker areas were strong," the former Ireland flyhalf added.
