White remains a Chief

Loose forward Ben White became the latest Exeter Chiefs player to commit his long-term future to the Premiership club.

Now into his fourth season at Sandy Park, the 31-year-old forward has established himself as a key member within Rob Baxter’s first-team squad, amassing 84 appearances and 15 tries since his move from Cardiff Blues in 2011.

Australian-born White follows the lead of Gareth Steenson, Dave Lewis, Ben Moon, Carl Rimmer and Kai Horstmann in agreeing terms on a new deal with the Devon club in recent weeks.

“It’s good to get everything sorted so quickly,” said White.

“It means I can focus on my game, go flat out at things and just crack into every game 100 per cent.”

White admits that having spoken with Baxter, his decision to extend his stay in Devon was in the end “pretty easy” once the formalities of his new deal had been finalised.

“It was a pretty easy decision to stay,” added White.

“When Rob offered me the deal, I was more than happy to stay. The environment here at the Chiefs is fantastic, it’s a great bunch of boys to play alongside, and since I’ve arrived I’ve really improved as a player, so I was pretty happy to stick along those lines and keep improving.”

Although White had to be patient initially following his move from the Welsh region, he has since gone on to become a destructive force within both the Premiership and Europe for the Devon club.

His try-scoring exploits have also been a key feature, as has his relentless work-rate around the pitch.

“I think my game has improve a lot,” he continued.

“My game understanding and knowing when the big moments are in games, it’s all improved so much. As I said, we have a good core group here at the club and we all push each other hard.

"There is always plenty of competition for places and hopefully that will continue over the next few years as well.”
