Young wants more from Wasps

Victory saw Wasps maintain their 100 percent start to the Premiership season with a 10-try rout of newly-promoted Bristol.

Christian Wade, Elliot Daly and Ashley Johnson all scored two tries for Wasps while Jake Cooper-Woolley, Tommy Taylor, Matt Symons and Danny Cipriani also crossed the visitors' line.

But former Wales and British and Irish Lions forward said there was more to come from Wasps.

"I would have settled for that before the game began and 14 out of 15 points is a real good start for us," he said.

"The test was to keep our focus and I'm pleased that we did as we had a bonus point in the bag by half-time.

"We haven't produced an 80-minute performance or a perfect performance as we got a bit messy at times today [Sunday]."

Former England flyhalf Cipriani's return to Wasps has seen Jimmy Gopperth move to centre and the duo combined to good effect against Bristol.

"We didn't stumble across the fact that Jimmy could play at 12," he said. "We knew he could adapt to that role but we've only got two 10s so that's a big risk and we will need to rest them at some stage.

Young wants more from Wasps"We are aiming to have two quality players in each position. It's manageable at present but when we get to Europe, some hard selection decisions will have to be made. It will be a question of who's playing best at a particular time."

Bristol Director of Rugby Andy Robinson said the southwest side had made far too many mistakes.

"We can't afford to make as many errors as we do," said Robinson.

"Premiership sides are very efficient. There were times when we were on the front foot, Wasps' defence then put us on the back foot so we lost possession and conceded seven points," the former England coach added.

"You need to look after the football a lot better and we made a number of disappointing decisions defensively as we gave them too much space on the outside.

"We know we are going to get days like this but if we work hard, we'll be able to turn it round as our endeavour to get a bonus point was good."

Meanwhile, Leicester coach Richard Cockerill accepted his side were fortunate to record a 14-13 win away to Newcastle after the home side's flyhalf, Joel Hodgson, missed what would have been a match-winning drop-goal in stoppage time at Kingston Park.

"We're very lucky to get away with a win and we're happy to take the four points," said Cockerill.

"We have to play smarter. There were times in the second half when we didn't control things well.

"We're encouraging the players to play more with the ball in hand, but we're making a lot of errors and making some poor decisions."
