Mona, who signed for the Kings during 2018/2019 Pro14 season, is one of a number of players that signed for Griquas for the upcoming domestic season in South Africa.

The loss will be a blow for the Kings as they are also set to lose current captain and hooker Michael Willemse to Edinburgh.

Griquas have bolstered their squad with a number of players from other provinces.

The Kimberley side has signed eight backline players. They are Anthony Volmink (Lions), Eduan Keyter (Western Province), Grant Hermanus (Western Province), Keanu Vers (EP Kings), Edwin Sass (after a short stint with Griquas in the Currie Cup last year, has been given a contract extension)

New backline players who are due to arrive in April: Tinus de Beer (Bulls), Michal Haznar (Western Province), Chris Smit (Maties),

New forwards to join Griquas are Victor Sekekete (Bulls) and Cody Basson (Griffons), while Johan Momsen (Maties) will also arrive in Kimberley in April along with Mona.

Griquas head coach Brent Janse van Rensburg said that he is happy with the progress made thus far to add depth to the squad.

“A warm welcome to the players who have already arrived with us. We trust they will enjoy their stay here and add the required value in creating competition for positions within our squad. We also look forward to welcoming the players who are busy finishing off their commitments with their current teams. A lot of work lay ahead for us all, but we are making steady progress. We are on the right path and must just remain focused on process,” said Janse van Rensburg.
