Maitland's WC chances slipping away

Sean Maitland has played his last game for the Glasgow Warriors and is facing a race against time to be fit in time for the World Cup.

The Scotland wing missed the Six Nations after he required shoulder surgery back in January.

There were hopes Maitland would be fit for Glasgow's season run-in, but the Warriors have now confirmed Maitland will miss the rest of the season.

"Sean got some tough news last week when it became clear his shoulder would require surgery," Warriors boss Gregor Townsend said.

"But the operation was a success and he's targeting to be back for the World Cup."

Maitland has now played his final match for Glasgow as he will join London Irish at the end of the season.

Townsend paid tribute to him, saying: "I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Sean for his contribution to the club, he's been an excellent player for us."
