Nakarawa's appeal turned down

An appeal by Leone Nakarawa, the Glasgow Warriors lock, was rejected after the player was cited for striking an opponent with his head.

At the initial hearing before an independent Pro12 Rugby Disciplinary Committee, the player had admitted committing an act of foul play and the citing complaint had been upheld by the Disciplinary Committee, which imposed a three week suspension on the player, ending at midnight on Sunday, March 29.

The player's appeal was based on four grounds, all confined to the question of sanction.

The Appeal Committee, having received submissions on behalf of the player and the Pro12 Rugby Disciplinary Officer, both in advance of and at the hearing, dismissed the Appeal in its entirety.

The Appeal Committee found that the Disciplinary Committee had not made the errors that the player had alleged and rejected the player's calls to have the sanctioning process re-conducted by the Appeal Committee.

The player's suspension remains as it was originally imposed.

The Appeal Committee ordered the player to pay the costs of convening the hearing and the legal costs incurred by the Disciplinary Officer in responding to the appeal.
