Solly reunites with Mallett versus Boks
Edinburgh coach Alan Solomons will be reunited with former South Africa and Italy mentor Nick Mallet.
The pair will take charge of the World XV side to face the Springboks at Newlands on Saturday 7 June.
The match, which is a warm-up for the Boks ahead of their mid-year Tests against Wales, is also of some significance to the Scotland national team – with SA facing Scotland in Port Elizabeth in the final round of mid-year internationals on June 28.
Solomons was Mallet's assistant coach during the Springbok's record run of 17 victories – which included an unbeaten Tri-Nations success in 1998 and record wins over Scotland (68-19), France (51-10) and Wales (96-13).
"Nick [Mallet] and I coached the Springboks for a number of years, so I'm looking forward to meeting up with him again and coaching what looks set to be a very talented team," Solomons said.
"Naturally I have a very important job to focus on with Edinburgh [in the Pro12], but this is certainly something to look forward to in the summer break.
"It'll be special to play against South Africa back at Newlands [home of Solomons' former side, the Stormers], at the beginning of their Rugby Championship and World Cup preparations."
All Black Carl Hayman and Bok World Cup winner BJ Botha have been named in the front row in the first release of confirmed participants named by organisers.
The backline will feature Wallabies James O'Connor, Matt Giteau and Drew Mitchell, as well as All Black wing Hosea Gear.
France will be represented by No.8 Julien Bonnaire and inside back François Trinh-Duc, while Toulon-based England flank Steffon Armitage is part of a Six Nations triumvirate.
