Brink blow for Boks
INJURY UPDATE: The Springbok team was dealt a cruel blow on the eve of the opening round of the Rugby Championship.
Uncapped loose forward Cyle Brink has been released from the Bok squad on Thursday, after suffering a serious knee injury.
The Bok team confirmed his departure via social media, although the exact extent of the injury.
“No replacement will be called up for the uncapped 24-year-old,” the Boks’ statement said.
“He will be further assessed by the Golden Lions medical staff.”
It is believed the freak training-ground accident could result in lengthy stay on the sidelines, although the exact extent of the injury will only be determined once the Lions’ medical staff had a chance to examine him.
Bok coach Rassie Erasmus was keen to give the talented loose forward a chance in the Rugby Championship.
However, at this stage it is uncertain when the Lions player will be back on the playing field.
