Will coaching Indaba help ailing Springboks?
SA Rugby announced that it will host a meeting of coaches in Cape Town next month. The meeting will be attended by the national coaches as well as all the Super Rugby coaches.
The call for the indaba comes in the wake of South Africa's 13-41 defeat against the All Blacks in Christchurch last weekend, which was the Springboks fourth loss in seven games played this year.
The last time a meeting of this nature was called for, was in 2006, when Jake White's Springboks were hammered 0-49 by Australia.
The 2006 coaches indaba seemed to tick all the right boxes as history will point out that just a year later the Springboks were crowned World Champions for the second time with a 15-6 victory over England in the World Cup Final, which was played at the Stade de France in Paris.
South African rugby supporters and coaches will be hoping that this year's meeting has a similar effect to the last one which took place as the Springboks have now slipped to fourth place on the latest World Rugby rankings.
However, Ackermann believes that SA Rugby has set the ball rolling in the right direction with the call for the conference.
"It's the initiative that was set now by SA Rugby and we will see what it's all about.
"It's a step from SA Rugby to get the coaches together in one vicinity and then there will be an agenda.
"We are not certain what it's all about yet, but it's a great initiative," explained Ackermann.
Ackermann added that he has been notified about the conference and he is excited to attend the meeting and give feedback to SA Rugby.
"From our [Golden Lions] side, we will support it if it comes down and we will just see.
"At this stage we just got the dates and we will see what it’s all about," said Ackermann.
