Saxons call up Higgins for Sackey

Bath wing senses an opportunity

London Wasps speedster Paul Sackey has failed to overcome a toe injury and will be replaced in the England Saxons squad for the Churchill Cup by Bath wing Andrew Higgins.

Sackey was always a doubt after pulling out of England's game against the Barbarians last Sunday, and he did not travel to Toronto with the rest of the Saxons squad.

"We wanted to give Paul as much time as possible but in the end we had to make a call and we are pleased that Andrew is joining us," said Saxons coach Jon Callard.

Higgins flies out to Canada today and will be considered for England's second game of the tournament, against the hosts on June 10.

"I want to continue improving on my performances for Bath towards the end of the season and build upon them," said the 25-year-old.

"I have not played since the game against Worcester at the beginning of May and I just want some rugby. The World Cup is not that far off now so it's important that I can show the selectors what I can do."
