BlitzBoks put Dubai behind them
The BlitzBoks were beaten 19-21 by the United States in the Cup quarterfinal, with Seabelo Senatla's sin-binning for taking a man out in the air in the second half playing a key role in their loss.
However, the South African's were also on the receiving end of some questionable calls by the match referee in the final two minutes, which also played a part in their defeat.
"It shows the nature of the game we are involved in," said Powell. "One incident can change the nature of the game – it can change the momentum of the game and the outcome of the tournament."
"Unfortunately the calls and the bounce of the balls did not go our way.
"Sometimes the decisions will go your way, sometimes the decisions will go against you. We just have to put it quickly behind us."
Despite falling short in the Cup section of the Dubai Sevens, Powell was still happy with the performances of his players and will not be making major changes to the way they play ahead of the Cape Town leg.
"We will focus on the small mistakes that we can rectify. You can't make big changes in a week's time.
"I'm really happy with the guys effort. I am happy with the way they played. I am happy with the defence and structure. We might have over committed at the rucks on a few occasions, but overall I am really happy with the guys," Powell added.
The 37-year-old was particularly pleased with the performances of Springboks Francois Hougaard and Juan de Jongh in his squad.
"They [Hougaard and De Jongh] did well.
"The more time they will spend with us, the better they will get.
"They will improve this coming weekend. They did make some mistakes here and there, but we will look at the mistakes and work through it and I am positive that they will get better because they will do the right thing this coming weekend," he said.
