Boks' pocket-rocket eyes BlitzBoks return

NEWS: Springbok wing and World Cup winner Cheslin Kolbe has set his sights on playing for the BlitzBoks at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Kolbe last played Sevens in the 2016/17 World Series and was part of the BlitzBoks side who won a bronze medal at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Since then, the 26-year-old has been a revelation in the 15-man code and has been vital not only for his Top14 club Toulouse, but also for South Africa during their World Cup campaign.

Kolbe capped his excellent spell with the French rugby publication Midi-Olympique‘s World Player of the Year award on Monday.

Kolbe was nominated along with France internationals Antoine Dupont and Damian Penaud.

“To get this award it is really special. There are so many legends of the game that have received this award,” Kolbe told Midi-Olympique.

“For me to be one of them, I am really grateful and honoured.

“Obviously I am going back to Stade Toulouse now. I always want to represent my club and country with pride and play the best rugby that I can. This is a game we are blessed to play and we are fortunate to make a career out of it.

“I want to be a European champion with Toulouse and we can maybe do it this season,” Kolbe added.

“This is my next goal – I hope to represent South Africa with the national team at Sevens at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.”

The 2020 Olympics get underway on July 24.
