Cup semifinals:

South Africa 12-7 Fiji

South Africa dominated the opening proceedings and after one minute they found themselves ahead with a Cecil Afrika try after some good interplay.

The BlitzBoks increased their lead a few minutes later when Seabelo Senatla ran in for a try. At half-time South Africa led 12-0.

Fiji got a try back near the end, but they could not find a winner with South Africa advancing to the Final.

New Zealand 14-5 England

There was not much scoring action in the first half, with only England managing to cross the tryline for a 5-0 lead at the break.

It was a completely different story in the second half when New Zealand scored two unanswered converted tries to eventually edge England and win 14-5.

Fifth place semifinals:

Kenya 12-19 Australia

Australia looked the better team in the opening stages and they took the lead before Kenya hit back before half-time to take a 7-5 lead into the break.

Australia shifted into a higher gear into the second half and outscored the Kenyans by two tries to one to win 19-12.

Samoa 27-22 Scotland

Samoa continued their impressive form into this match when they ran in three tries to lead Scotland 15-5 after the first half.

Scotland were a different team in the second half and they took the game to Samoa with three fantastic tries to leave the scores at 22-22 with the match heading into extra time.

However, Scotland's fightback came to nothing as Samoa scored the crucial try in extra time to win the game.

Trophy semifinals:

Argentina 12-14 Spain

Argentina were the favourites, but Spain did not read the script as their strong defence kept out their opponents while they crossed the whitewash in the first half for a 7-0 lead at the break.

Argentina managed to level the scores in the second half before went in front again with an excellent try.

Argentina managed to squeeze in a final try at the end but they could not convert, which gave Spain a memorable victory.

Canada 21-28 France

There was nothing to separate the two teams in the first half with both scoring two converted tries for a 14-14 scoreline at the break.

Canada took the lead with a third try in the second half before France staged a late fightback with two tries to win 28-21.

Thirteenth place semifinals:

USA 21-31 Wales

It was all Wales in the first half of their match against the USA as they ran in three tries to lead 19-0 at the break.

The USA were more competitive in the second half with three tries, but their defence let them down once again with Wales adding to their tally to eventually win the match 31-21.

Uganda 12-17 Russia

There was nothing to choose between the two teams in the first half as the score was 0-0 at the break. This was mainly due to a number of handling errors.

It was a different story in the second half with Uganda coming alive to score two tries before Russia scored two themselves late in the game to level matters and take the game into extra time.

It was a tense period of play in extra time before Uganda got the winning score.
