Sage bringing his own flavour to BlitzBoks

Sage was named in coach Neil Powell's 12-man squad along with Rosko Specman for the two-day tournament after injuries to Werner Kok and Cecil Afrika.

The 23-year-old believes he is ready to play against some of the best in the game at the momemt.

"I just want to show what I can bring to the team and do as much as I can to help the team succeed. That is my first and only goal," said Sage.

"I was really excited when I got the call up. We've worked hard throughout the week so we are ready."

Although he was excited when he got the call-up to the squad, Sage admitted it was not a surprise.

"You prepare yourself throughout the pre-season so you are not surprised when you get the call up.

"You work extremely hard like all the other players so when we get the call up you are ready for it," he added.

When asked who he thinks will be the BlitzBoks' main competition in Cape Town this weekend, Sage refused to single out any one team.

"We focus on everyone. We are not worried about one team, we are worried about everyone and when the game comes we have our systems in place," he added.

Being part of next year's Olympics in Rio is the ultimate goal for every Sevens player this season. However, Sage does not want to look too far ahead.

"At the moment I am just worried about playing in every tournament I can and taking every opportunity I can.

"That [Olympics] is in the future and I am worried about the present," Sage added.
