Good news for England's Arundell after red card
NEWS: Henry Arundell has escaped a ban following his red card against Scotland and will be available for Saturday’s clash with Ireland.
The wing was sent off after receiving two yellow cards in the Calcutta Cup clash.
Arundell appeared in front of a disciplinary panel convened by the Six Nations on Tuesday morning and has been cleared of further sanction.
An independent Disciplinary Committee upheld the decision to send him off but ruled that the two yellow cards were for separate incidents – the first a “technical offence” and the second for a “very different act”.
Arundell was initially sin-binned for failing to release in the tackle before receiving a second yellow for challenging Kyle Steyn in the air.
Under the 20-minute red card law, the Bath wing’s dismissal meant his side played with 14 men for half an hour before being allowed to bring on a replacement.
According to the committee, “The player accepted that he had committed the acts of foul play that resulted in the showing of the two yellow cards, which led to the red card. The independent Disciplinary Committee upheld the red card but determined that, in the circumstances (including that the first yellow card had been issued for a ‘technical offence’, and that the second yellow card had been issued for a very different act of foul play), the sending off of the player had been a sufficient sanction, and no further sanction was appropriate. The player is now free to play.”
