Biggar wary of Kiwi rival

Wales flyhalf Dan Biggar insists he is not taking a starting place for granted ahead of Wales' Six Nations opener with England next Friday.

The 25-year-old worked hard to nail himself down as first choice in the November internationals, but now has a new rival for the No.10 jersey in Kiwi-born Gareth Anscombe.

The former New Zealand Under-20s man was named in Warren Gatland's squad for the first time, and will be hoping to make his international debut in this year's Six Nations

But despite having a new competitor in the Wales set-up, Biggar admits off the pitch the pair have struck up a bond as the Wales squad continue their preparations for the visit of England on Friday.

"Gareth has been good and settled in nicely," he told WalesOnline.

"He seems like a good bloke. It's been good to meet him and we stayed behind to do some kicking practice.

"There's not a lot more I can say. It's like first day back at school for him I suppose, learning the calls and the plays.

"I would never say that I feel comfortable in my position because you have obviously got Rhys Priestland who has been coming back into some great form and obviously Gareth [Anscombe] who has been playing well.

"So I don't feel comfortable in my position, not at all. There is a lot of hard work to come.

"But in terms of feeling a bit more confident in the surroundings and with the calls, it has been a little bit easier to fit in. I just want to push for selection."
