Hero Weir had no doubts

Scotland hero Duncan Weir said he had no doubts about the last-minute drop-goal that secured victory over Italy in Rome.

In the final minute Scotland trailed 20-18 to Italy, who had retaken the lead thanks to Joshua Furno's late try, but Weir nailed his first ever international drop goal to sneak victory.

It was some much-needed relief for Scotland, who had lost their previous two matches to Ireland and England and had not previously won in Rome since 2006.

And Weir, who also converted the second of Alex Dunbar's two tries, revealed his intervention went perfectly to script.

"It's the first time I have dropped a goal for Scotland and it has never been more important. I'm absolutely delighted," he said.

"In those pressure moments you can only focus on your routine. I made sure I got my ball drop right and got a clean connection. I'm just so thankful it went over," he said.

Weir said that he committed completely to the kick and got rewarded.

"I ran off celebrating, going off my head. It was an immense feeling.

"I had no doubts about taking it on. Chris Cusiter put it on a plate for me, on the right side of my body. The whole thing went perfectly."
