Wales lose key player for Six Nations match against France

SQUAD ANNOUNCEMENT: Wales head coach Warren Gatland has selected a 32-player squad for a training camp in Nice ahead of the final round match against France in the 2023 Six Nations.

Liam Williams and Scott Baldwin have been ruled out of Wales’s Six Nations clash against France this weekend, the Welsh Rugby Union announced on Tuesday.

Fullback Williams was hurt during the 29-17 victory over Italy at the weekend, having scored a superb solo try earlier in the match.

Hooker Baldwin is unavailable for Saturday’s encounter at the Stade de France because of a pectoral muscle issue.

Sam Parry (Ospreys) has been called up to the squad.

Keiran Williams (Ospreys) was released following a groin injury he sustained in the Ospreys’s United Rugby Championship match against Benetton on Saturday, March 4.

Wales, who have won just once in this season’s Six Nations, have lost their past four fixtures against France, and will take on a team in buoyant mood following their 53-10 rout of England at Twickenham.

France could still snatch the title but Ireland are hot favourites to seal their first Grand Slam since 2018.

Wales 32-man squad:

Rhys Carre, Wyn Jones, Gareth Thomas, Ken Owens (Captain), Sam Parry, Bradley Roberts, Leon Brown, Tomas Francis, Dillon Lewis, Adam Beard, Rhys Davies, Dafydd Jenkins, Alun Wyn Jones, Taulupe Faletau, Jac Morgan, Tommy Reffell, Justin Tipuric, Aaron Wainwright

Kieran Hardy, Rhys Webb, Tomos Williams, Dan Biggar, Rhys Patchell, Owen Williams, Mason Grady, Joe Hawkins, George North, Nick Tompkins, Josh Adams, Rio Dyer, Leigh Halfpenny, Louis Rees-Zammit
