Wales great shoots straight from the hip

NEWS: Former international flyhalf Dan Biggar says changes must be made by the Welsh Rugby Union otherwise the game will descend further into the abyss.

Biggar spoke on ITV’s post-match coverage and explained that problems with Wales haven’t just occurred over the last six or 12 months.

Matt Sherratt’s Welsh side suffered their biggest ever Six Nations defeat and lost a 17th international in a row.

This is the most for a Tier One nation in the professional era.

England ran in a jaw-dropping 10 tries to secure a memorable win in Cardiff.

The Test veteran of 79 test caps, 392 points and two World Cups, also boasts 64 caps in the Champions and Challenge Cup, scoring 640 points.

“These problems haven’t just occurred over the last six, 12 months, have they?” Biggar commented.

“They’ve been deep-rooted in Welsh rugby for a long time, and the success, the championships, the Grand Slams did paper over them.

“And now, without winning, it just goes to show – ticket sales down, sponsors et cetera, which is why the powers that be have to make some really big decisions.

“Ultimately, removing the coach at the start of the tournament was almost the easy decision. Now, the powers that be will be judged on what decision they make next.”

Wales, having secured the Wooden Spoon for a second successive season, will not be in action again until they tour Japan while the British & Irish Lions are in Australia.

They face the Brave Blossoms on July 5 and July 12 in Kitakyushu and Kobe respectively.
