Blues lose rookie All Black lock

INJURY UPDATE: All Blacks and Blues lock Sam Darry has been ruled out for the entire Super Rugby season according to a report by the New Zealand Herald.

Darry injured his shoulder during pre-season training that will require surgery and an extended stint on the sidelines.

The defending champions have the experience of fellow All Black lock Patrick Tuipulotu to rely on, but Darry’s presence will be missed in the Blues engine room.

The Blues have acquired the services of 20-year-old Cam Christie, while the impressive Josh Beehere and veteran Laghlan McWannnell will remain on the roster.

The promising Cameron Suafua is back after missing last season with cancer therapy, having returned to rugby in the New Zealand NPC with North Harbour.

The Blues are hopeful that Darry will be able to return to the All Blacks fold should Scott Robertson call on the 24-year-old again.

Darry made his Test debut against Fiji in San Diego last year and featured throughout the year in five more games.
