Beale a doubt for 'poor' Waratahs
Wallaby Kurtley Beale left the field just before halftime during his side's 24-all draw to the Sharks in Durban on Saturday.
Waratahs head coach Daryl Gibson confirmed the 29-year-old sustained a rib injury and will be monitored in the coming days to determine his availability for the Waratahs' clash against the Jaguares.
"Kurtley got a small, looks like a rib cartilage [injury] so we’re just waiting for a scan to see what we need to do there," coach Gibson told reporters during the post-match conference in Durban.
The 24-all draw in Durban means that Waratahs remain unbeaten after they opened their Super Rugby campaign with a win over Stormers in Round two.
The Waratahs were the first to score a converted try, however – similar to last weekend's match against the Stormers – they led the lead slip and were forced to come back from behind after gifting the Sharks the lead.
With less than five minutes on the clock it appeared that Sharks sealed the hard-fought win, however, the Waratahs scored a try through replacement scrumhalf Mitch Short.
Bernard Foley kept added the touchline conversion to earn the Waratahs a draw.
Both teams scored three tries in a match, littered with errors in the sapping heat and humidity.
Despite earning two-log points away from home, Waratahs coach Daryl Gibson was far from happy with his side's 'pretty poor' performance.
"We were pretty poor – to be frank," Gibson said, adding: "We put ourselves under pressure. Yes to come away with two points sure I'm happy with that, but not happy with our performance.
"Last weekend we got out of jail against the Stormers – scoring in the last minute. This week we play pretty average and got away with two points.
"We need to be much better if we want to be successful in this competition," he added.
Captain Michael Hooper – who added to the Waratahs' tally with a try- echoed his coaches' sentiments.
"We were able to create a lot of opportunities but seem to stuff up in the end by handling errors and not being able to recycle the ball well," Hooper said.
