Brumbies eager to slow Lions down

The Brumbies host the Johannesburg powerhouse on Friday at the GIO Stadium.

Friday’s match looms as a crucial one for the Brumbies ahead of their two-match tour of South Africa and Argentina.

Sitting second overall on 42 points, the Lions have only lost one match all year and will head to Canberra full of confidence. The 2016 runners-up also possess a formidable attacking threat having racked up 351 points over their 10 matches.

"You have to match them with aggression, they’re a big, big team that love running the ball so we have to get up in defence and try to slow them down," Enever told brumbies.com.au.

"They’ve got good backs and forwards that play exciting rugby. We’ve had that bye so hopefully, we can put on a good performance.

"They’ve shown that they can score tries but I think we’re pretty structurally good in defence. We just have to keep backing ourselves and try and cut off their options,"

With the side coming off a bye, Enever praised coach Stephen Larkham’s decision to give the team a week off, as well as his rotation policy, ahead of Friday' big clash.

"A few of the boys were able to get away for a couple of days," Enever said.

"We trained last Tuesday and then we were told to get away from it. We had a good day on Sunday as well coming back. It is important to get your head away from rugby, it freshens you up and makes you even more keen to get on with the job when you come back,"

Currently behind Sam Carter and Rory Arnold in the pecking order, Enever has still made seven appearances this year. The 25-year-old praised Larkham’s decision to give everyone a chance, calling the policy a win-win.

"With the rotation, it’s always good for the other boys getting in and having a crack as well. When you have a strong squad like we do, giving blokes like myself a run just makes us hungry for more. It makes you work harder in training, putting pressure on the starters, makes them better.

"Rotation is an awesome policy, everyone sort of wins with it. I’ve found it pretty good so far and hopefully, it will keep moving us forward,"
