Bulls lose Baby Bok for the season

The Bulls will be without the services of young Pierre Schoeman for the entire Super Rugby season after he tore his cruciate ligament in pre-season.

Schoeman was an integral member of the South African Under-20 side in the Junior World Championship in New Zealand last year.

The burly front row forward made his first class debut during the 2014 Vodacom Cup competition. He started in the Blue Bulls' 24–26 defeat to eventual champions Griquas.

The 20-year-old tighthead joins a substantial list of injured props for the Bulls including Basil Short (pectoral muscle), who will only train the first week of February, and Hencus van Wyk (foot injury) who returns at the end of next month.

One positive will be the return of prop Morne Mellett who has been cleared of a rib contusion and will be considered for the Bulls team to play a season-opening warm-up match against the Cheetahs in Polokwane on Saturday.

The only other long-term injury is that of lock Flip van der Merwe (pectoral, April 14), but all of Adriaan Strauss (calf, February 9), Jason Jenkins (quad, January 26) and Handre Pollard (foot, January 26) will be fit for the opening match against the Stormers on February 14 at Loftus Versfeld,
