Character got Reds home

Reds coach Richard Graham was particularly impressed with the character his side showed in their gritty 22-17 victory over the Stormers in Brisbane.

After coming back from a winless tour of South Africa the Reds had a shortened week to prepare for the Stormers, and although it was not necessarily pretty, they did enough to get over the line.

The home side were outscored by two tries to one, but improved their discipline considerably as Quade Cooper punished the Stormers by scoring 17 points with his boot.

Heavy rain during the week meant conditions were slippery underfoot at Suncorp Stadium with the temperature a humid 27 degrees at kick off.

Graham said the result was especially good considering the short turnaround from South Africa.

"It was a great win, it was outstanding. On the back of the travel and the shortened week I thought we showed a lot of character," Graham said.

"I'm just really proud of the group."

Graham said he was looking forward to another match at home on the back of a full week of preparation, with the high-flying Force the next team to visit Brisbane.

"We'll recover really well and prepare well, but I guess the challenge for us is to continue improving each week in the way we want to play.

"Next week will be a good opportunity for us, having had a full week of preparation," he said.
