Video: Du Preez hails Sharks' fightback
REACTION: Sharks head coach Robert du Preez hailed his team’s second-half fightback against the Lions at Kings Park on Saturday.
After being 11-21 down at half-time, Du Preez had some strong word for his players during the break and his team eventually powered to a 31-24 win.
“We obviously didn’t have any possession in the first half and also no territory,” Du Preez told reporters after the match.
“I knew that we would need a special performance and a really big fightback from the boys, so I just asked them to play for each other and to fight for each other and that is what they did.”
The Sharks’ improved showing in the scrums in the second half also played a big part in the victory.
“I think we were probably a little bit high in our setup in the beginning. There was probably not enough speed in our setup, but we sorted that out.
“I think there was a vast improvement in the second half and that actually changed the game for us,” he said.
Du Preez added: “I thought our defence was outstanding apart from the two soft tries at the beginning of the game.
“It took its toll at the end. I thought we broke them down defensively and, in the end, it gave us the upper hand.”
