Ebersohn turns down French offer
Star centre Robert Ebersohn has turned down a lucrative offer from French club Montpellier to remain at the Cheetahs.
Ebersohn’s scintillating Super Rugby form has seen him being named in a 36-man Springbok training squad and hasn’t gone unnoticed by wealthy overseas clubs.
Cheetahs coach Naka Drotské told supersport.com he persuaded Ebersohn to stay in Bloemfontein.
“Robert said no to Montpellier,” said Drotské.
“I think it is a good decision, not only for us, but for him as well. Personally I believe he is young enough and has a lot of time ahead of him in his career, and his best rugby is still to come. So I think it is a good decision to stay where he is.”
Drotské also made it clear that he would not release any players under contract should agents come calling.
“The overseas clubs want the players after Super Rugby and if I say yes to one player how do I say no to the next player. The Currie Cup is a very important competition to us and we need all our contracted players to be available for it.”
