Ellison out of Force clash

Melbourne Rebels centre Tamati Ellison has been ruled out of his team's final match of the season against the Western Force in Melbourne on Friday.

Ellison joins wing Sefanaia Naivalu in missing the game, after being a late withdrawal in Saturday's win against the Bulls.

Rebels’ head of athletic performance Bryce Cavanagh said that the decision to rule Ellison out had been made early this week to allow the team to prepare knowing he wouldn’t be available for selection.

"We’ve made the decision to rule Tamati out due to his groin injury," Cavanagh said. "We will now begin exploring the best course of action for Tamati moving forward."

Naivalu returned to Melbourne on Saturday after undergoing surgery in South Africa to his broken leg.

"It’s really good to have Sefa home after he successfully underwent surgery last week," Cavanagh said. "Now that he’s back in Melbourne, we can begin to plan his long-form rehabilitation and work with him towards a successful recovery."
