Fleck looks to the future
The Cape side were blown away 60-21 by a near-flawless Chiefs outfit at Newlands but Fleck believes they can reach the level and tempo of the New Zealand sides, much like the Lions have been able to achieve.
"I think we can [reach the New Zealand teams' intensity] but we have a lot of work to do and still have to come to grips with the intensity that they play at. We haven't had the taste of it [the tempo] but now that we have, we have to up our game for next year but I think we can catch up to that level.
"The Lions have proved it and we would like to continue what we started this year. We will have a look at it and make plans for next year. For some of these guys, it was their first time against NZ opposition and we now know what it's like, so we have a bit of work to do," Fleck said.
On the match itself, Fleck believes the tempo at which the Chiefs played at, simply blew them away.
"They blew us away in the first half and the tempo they played at killed us. The boys showed the character to fight hard but at the end of the day, you have to give credit where its due. Everything they [they Chiefs] did came off for them and it's a taste of what's to come next year.
"We have to lick our big wounds but I don't think the Chiefs are that many points ahead [of us]. They were just better on the night," he added.
Fleck conveyed his best wishes to the Lions after their victory over the Crusaders.
"From our side we wish the Lions the best and will back them all the way as fellow South Africans. Hopefully they can go all the way and prove that any team in South Africa can play at the level that the kiwis are setting at the moment," Fleck stated.
