Gear, Williams headline Chiefs team

By Online Editors
Thursday 5 Feb 2015
The Chiefs have named a large squad that includes All Black superstar Sonny Bill Williams as well as Super Rugby centurion Hosea Gear to play the Waratahs in their final warm-up game.

It is a game in which will allow Chiefs head coach Dave Rennie the chance to trial some of his fringe players with the forward pack looking especially inexperienced.

Alongside Williams and Gear, Rennie will also have a chance to see New Zealand Under-20 star Damian McKenzie and his brother Marty in action as they push for the flyhalf spot with Aaron Cruden being rested for the first few rounds of the competition.

Chiefs squad:

Forwards: Michael Allardice, Johan Bardoul, Mitchell Crosswell, Hika Elliot, Jarrod Firth, Mike Fitzgerald, Mitchell Graham, Tevita Kolomatangi, Pauliasi Manu, Quentin McDonald, Jamie Mackintosh, Rhys Marshall, Sean Polwart, Matt Symons, Siate Tokolahi, Maa’ma Vaipulu.

Backs: Hosea Gear, Bryce Heem, Ngataua Hukatai, Anton Lienert-Brown, Damian McKenzie, Marty McKenzie, Tom Marshall, Augustine Pulu, Robbie Robinson, Seta Tamanivalu, Brad Weber, Sonny Bill Williams.

Date: Friday, February 6

Venue: Campbelltown Sports Stadium, Sydney

Kick-off: 19.30 (08.30 GMT; 21.30 NZDT)

Referee: Angus Gardner (Australia)

Assistant referees: James Leckie (Australia), Ed Martin (Australia)
