Genia: We hit rock-bottom

The Reds hopeless performances continued in Round 13 of Super Rugby which led some observers to suggest coach Richard Graham no longer had the support of the players.

Their latest defeat, a 17-58 humiliation at the hands of the Crusaders in Christchuch on Friday,  saw the Reds bring in high-profile coaching personnel to their contingent, including former Reds mentor John Connolly and All Black legend Brad Thorn.

Queenslander and Wallaby Will Genia has stuck by Graham explaining that the Reds players are still behind their coach.

"He is our head coach – we support him, we all bought in to the way he wants to do things and play the game," Genia said at a Reds media briefing in Brisbane.

"The results don't reflect positively of where we at, but we are trying."

The Reds occupy last spot on the Super Rugby log with two wins and nine losses, and Genia believes there is only one way forward from there.

"To say you have hit rock-bottom, there is only one way up for us now."

Genia admitted the beating they took from the 'Saders was humiliating.

"It was embarrassing to be honest,we conceded a couple of soft tries, the boys were pretty embarrassed and ashamed at the result."

When so much goes wrong in a team, it is sometimes hard to put a finger on what exactly it is, however Genia believes the errors stem from areas that are fixable.

"We can fix these things by working on our defence systems."

Genia: We hit rock-bottom

Connolly returns to Ballymore at a time where the Reds find themselves struggling for victory, and Genia already feels the presence of the Queensland legend.

"He [Connolly] definitely has presence, the moment I drove into Ballymore this morning I had to go and say hello, he has that command of respect and authority," added Genia.

"You hear all the stories… and he was around when Queensland were successful, so he will be good to have around."

"His intentions will become clearer as the days go on."
