The Highlanders have signed South African journeyman Ross Geldenhuys as they went on a buying spree ahead of the 2015 Super Rugby season.

Geldenhuys, a 31-year-old who moved from the Southern Kings to Tasman in New Zealand this year, and his form in the NPC has earned him a call-up to the Highlanders for next year.

He started out with the Border Bulldogs almost a decade ago and has since also played for Western Province, Pumas, Lions (Super Rugby), Golden Lions (Currie Cup), Blue Bulls, Boland Cavaliers, Free State Cheetahs, Griffons, Eastern Province Kings, Southern Kings and Stormers.

The Highlanders have three other four props – Hawke's Bay's Brendon Edmonds, Bay of Plenty's Pingi Tala'apitaga and Waikato's Josh Hohneck.

Magpies hooker Ash Dixon and Wellington lock Mark Reddish are both leaving the Hurricanes to head south.

Northland flank Dan Pryor will also join the Highlanders.

Highlanders coach, Jamie Joseph said one of the big lessons from the past season was the pressure they came under in the set pieces in the final stages of the competition.

"We have selected players with that in mind and who we think can improve our team in that area," Joseph said.

"All players have a real desire to be part of the Highlanders which is exciting for them and for us as we welcome them on board."

General Manager, Roger Clark, added: "I'm really excited to see what the new recruits can bring to our environment.

"In saying that, we've still got a few positions to go and I know the coaches will be keeping a close eye on the second half of the NPC to finalise those last positions."
