Horwill faces ban after red card
Super Rugby's new bad boy, Wallaby and lock James Horwill, is facing a ban after his latest act of thuggery.
Horwill, who was red-carded for striking an opponent in the head in the 20th minute of his team's 15-23 loss to the Rebels in Melbourne on Friday, is to face a SANZAR hearing.
It is likely that he will be slapped with a big ban – given his colourful disciplinary record.
He has already been yellow-carded twice this season alone.
SANZAR said on Friday that judicial officer Nicholas Davidson will decide the veteran second row forward's fate.
He will be charged under Law 10.4 (a): Punching or striking – a player must not strike an opponent with the fist or arm, including the elbow, shoulder, head or knee(s).
The case is to be considered in the first instance by Davidson.
All SANZAR disciplinary matters are in the first instance referred to a judicial officer hearing to provide the option of expediting the judicial process.
For a matter to be dispensed with at this hearing, the person appearing must plead guilty and accept the penalty offered by the judicial officer.
