Hunt ready for Bulls' kicking game
Reds fullback Karmichael Hunt is in the starting line-up for the first time this season in Super Rugby and is prepared for a high-ball bombardment from the Bulls at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.
The code-hopping utility back said the Reds have adjusted their game-plan for the conditions they will experience on the Highveld
Hunt is expecting a fair amount of kicking from Jacques-Louis Potgieter and company.
The Reds back told a media briefing at the team's training base in Johannesburg that the Reds are well prepared for the Bulls' tactics.
"The Bulls like to kick a lot of high balls, so we've been preparing for that at training," Hunt said.
"The Ball is going to be flying at altitude, so I will be standing a bit further back position wise."
Hunt, a former Rugby League and AFL star, should have a well versed skillset to match the Bulls kicking game.
When he was asked if he enjoys playing against teams that kick frequently, Hunt's response was: "Yes I do, and we are preparing for a lot of high balls.
"We're practicing our tactics – catching, and what we want to do with the ball as well," he added.
The fullback, who has only recently returned to the field from a cocaine suspension, is excited about the opportunity to wear the No.15 jersey for the Reds, and is expecting to play a leadership role at the back.
"Im pretty excited to be back in the starting team and to be in Africa for the first time.
"I've got to lead vocally which I do naturally and help marshall the troops around with Willy [Will Genia] and Slipper [James Slipper]."
