Hurricanes' depth to be tested
INJURY UPDATE: The Hurricanes have a number of injury concerns ahead of their Super Rugby clash against the Brumbies in Canberra on Saturday.
Flyhalf Beauden Barrett and lock Vaea Fifita were going through concussion protocols and their availability for the weekend remains uncertain.
Flank Ardie Savea is set to out of action for two to three weeks with an ankle sprain he suffered in the All Blacks’ third Test against France over the weekend.
Meanwhile, there is uncertainty surrounding the fitness of captain Brad Shields. The England flank missed the third Test against the Springboks because of illness.
The Hurricanes’ depth in the midfield will also be seriously tested with centre Matt Proctor and utility Vince Aso ruled out of action for the remainder of the season.
Jordie Barrett could be a midfield option for the Hurricanes going forward. Wes Goosen or Jonah Lowe are the other options for midfield roles.
“It’s a hard one to figure out whether he’s [Jordie Barrett] better in the midfield or better in the back.
“He’s been solid and I’m sure he’ll get better and better,” Hurricanes assistant coach Jason Holland said.
