Injured Lions ready for Cheetahs
The Lions, who returned from a three-match road trip in which they collected two wins and nine points, will host the Cheetahs in Johannesburg on Saturday.
A number of key players picked up injury niggles in the 15-34 loss to the defending champion Highlanders last Saturday, but they should all be fit to face the Cheetahs.
Centre Rohan Janse van Rensburg suffered a hip pointer injury and while he is continuing to receive physiotherapy, he is available to play.
Lock Franco Mostert suffered a hip strain and still receiving treatment, but also listed as "available to play".
Prop Julian Redelinghuys is struggling with upper neck muscle spasms, but the niggle is "settling well" with treatment.
Wing Courtnall Skosan suffered a calf spasm, following cramping in Dunedin last Saturday, but the niggle is settling well through treatment. He will be managed in training this week.
Two players who did not make the trip, but were injured while playing for the Golden Lions in a Currie Cup pre-season match, are loose forwards Ruaan Lerm (contusion calf) and Cyle Brink (laceration of the lower lip).
Lerm is available for selection, but Brink is on "non contact training".
Lions coach Johan Ackermann may still make some changes to his team.
In the first week of the tour he said he will look at the players who were left behind – such as Springbok flyhalf Marnitz Boshoff – who earlier this week signed two-year deal with Irish province Connacht.
