Jantjies' Bok dream fractured?
Jantjies, who is a frontrunner for the Springbok No.10 jersey alongside Sharks rival Patrick Lambie for their three-Test series against Ireland in June, will see a hand surgeon on Monday to to assess the severity of the injury.
If Jantjies' is sidelined, he is likely to miss the Boks' three Tests on June 11 (at Newlands), 18 (Ellis Park) and 25 (Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium).
It's not the first time this season that Jantjies has suffered a potential season-ending injury.
The 25-year-old, capped twice by South Africa in 2012, injured his wrist earlier in the Lions' campaign; but was later cleared to continue playing, wearing a wrist guard.
His omission from the Springbok World Cup squad last year was one of the big talking points and his mercurial form and skillset make him an obvoius choice for a Bok team looking to evolve into a more expansive game.
The Springbok squad will be announced at Newlands on Saturday, May 28.
* Jantjies is not the only setback for the Lions following their 52-24 demolition of the Jaguares at Ellis Park.
Jaco van der Walt is also on the injury list after sustaining a grade three posterior cruciate ligament injury to his right knee and, despite the seriousness of the injury, might be back after six weeks according to the Lions' medical team.
Loosehead prop Corne Fourie will undergo a late fitness test this week after sustaining a cartilage injury.
