Jantjies to miss season opener

The Lions medical staff have confirmed that Springbok flyhalf Elton Jantjies will miss Saturday’s opening Super Rugby game against the Cheetahs in Bloemfontein.

Jantjies and try hungry wing Anthony Volmink are both recovering from shoulder injuries and are expected to be ready to play in the next fortnight.

Ruan Dreyer is also carrying a shoulder injury, however, the prop continues to make good progress and is being considered for this weekend’s game following a rapid recovery.

Fellow prop Jacobus Roux, who was stretchered from the field during Friday night’s warm-up game against the Sharks, has been cleared to play. He sustained a severe neck stinger and was only assisted from the field as a precaution.

No players sustained injuries during both games held at Ellis Park on Friday.
