Lambie faces another long spell on the sidelines
Lambie, who captained the Sharks, suffered a fractured vertebra in his lower back in the 37-14 win over the Waratahs in Durban at the weekend.
Team doctor Alan Kourie said it is difficult to say exactly how long the approximate length of recovery will be.
"He [Lambie] is to undergo further scans today [Monday], but his return is estimated at six to eight weeks," Kourie said.
Lambie has found his playing time severely curtailed by injuries the last few seasons – which included shoulder surgery, a neck injury, fractured finger and the massive head knock that ruled him out for four months last year.
Coach Robert du Preez stated after the Waratahs game that there were always going to be personnel changes during the tournament, as per the directive from SA Rugby to rest Springboks in a plan to manage game time.
With the Easter weekend bye coming up next month, Lambie looks likely to return for the late run of South African derbies at a critical juncture in the Sharks' schedule.
The physical nature of the Super Rugby clash with the Waratahs left the Sharks with other injuries issues as well.
Philip van der Walt suffered a fractured cheekbone in a clash of heads and he will not be available this weekend's encounter with the Kings.
He will be reassessed next week to determine his availability.
Hooker Franco Marais and fullback Clement Poitrenaud will undergo further tests to determine their availability for this weeks' match.
