The team confirmed on Monday that Marx suffered a soft tissue injury. The Lions lost first-choice hooker Robbie Coetzee last month to a knee injury. Coetzee is expected to return to action towards the end of July.

Meanwhile, prop Julian Redelinghuys is another casualty from the match against the Stormers.

He sprained his right wrist and will probably be unavailable for this weekend's match against the Southern Kings in Port Elizabeth.

Lions head coach Johan Ackermann said that both Marx and Redelinghuys were due a rest against the Kings.

After the Kings match, the Lions will play the Hurricanes before they have their second bye of the season.
