Massive midfield blow for Reds and Wallabies
INJURY UPDATE: Reds centre Samu Kerevi’s Super Rugby season has come to an abrupt end due to a ruptured bicep.
The Wallaby centre, who carried the injury throughout the June Test series against Ireland, complained about discomfort after the Reds’ loss to the Blues in Auckland last weekend.
Kerevi was sent for scans where it was revealed that he will have to undergo surgery.
Consequently, he will now be sidelined for 12 to 16 weeks bringing an end to his Super Rugby season and upcoming Rugby Championship campaign.
This is a massive worry for head coach Brad Thorn, who already has Chris Feauai-Sautia and Izaia Perese sidelined for the remainder of the season through knee injuries.
Meanwhile, Wallaby head coach Michael Cheika also need to find a replacement at No.13 for the forthcoming Rugby Championship, Bledisloe Cup and end-of-year European tour.
However, it seems like the Wallaby mentor Tevita Kuridrani may be in line for a recall despite not being named in the 23 throughout the June series.
