Gert Smal’s team were clear underdogs heading into the game, which had a lot riding on it in the play-off race that year.

The Stormers did not just upset the home team, they absolutely humiliated them by giving Carlos Spencer and his teammates a taste of their own medicine out wide.

With Gaffie du Toit at flyhalf and in-form players like Tonderai Chavhanga, Marius Joubert and De Wet Barry in the backline, the Stormers ran the Blues ragged to record a 51-23 win in Auckland.

It was an important result with the Stormers pipping the Blues in the play-off race.
