It was the Kings’ final season of Super Rugby after they were consigned to the scrapheap in 2018 as SANZAAR looked for solutions to the game’s growing unpopularity.

The Waratahs stormed to a 17-0 lead after 34 minutes in that game before the Kings fought to record one of their more famous wins (26-24) in the tournament.

It was certainly a shocking result for the Aussies. The two teams only met once before and that was four years earlier in 2013 with the Waratahs winning 72-10 in Port Elizabeth.

In the end, it was a respectable 11th-place finish for the Kings in the 18-team competition in 2017.

They recorded six wins and nine losses and finished above the Bulls and the Cheetahs in the South African Conference.
