McCabe Joins Brumbies Board

McCabe, who appeared for the Brumbies on 66 occasions and was capped by the Wallabies 24 times, replaces Scott Fardy in the position.

"It is an honour to join the Board of the Brumbies," McCabe said of his appointment. "Rugby has provided me with some of the best experiences of my life and taught me so much about myself both on and off the field.

"As a Board Member of the Brumbies, I hope to contribute to the success and sustainability of rugby in the ACT and the wider region and to ensure that more young men and women can share in those same values, friendships and experiences that I was so fortunate to have."

Brumbies Chairman Rob Kennedy was delighted that McCabe has become part of a new-look Brumbies Board.

"We are delighted that someone of the stature of Pat has agreed to join the Board," Kennedy commented.

"Pat is well known throughout the rugby community and is a face that many Brumbies players, officials and supporters know and respect. He enjoyed a storied career at both franchise and international level and we look forward to having his knowledge and know-how as part of the Brumbies."

McCabe, a lawyer, sprung to prominence as a player with a series of stand-out performances in the Australia Under-19 team that finished third in the U19 World Championships in 2007.

After stints with the Central Coast Rays, winning the 2007 Australian Rugby Championship, and the Warringah Rats, he signed for the Brumbies, making his debut in 2010 against the Western Force, a 24-15 win in Perth.

McCabe's international call-up followed in Florence the same year, the fullback /wing appearing as a late replacement for Adam Ashley-Cooper in a match where Australia defeated Italy 32-14. His first start followed in 2011 against Samoa in Sydney.

A series of neck injuries later in his career saw McCabe forced to retire from the game, although he made a remarkable comeback from initially breaking his neck to play a part in the Australia versus British and Irish Lions series in 2013.
