Off-field yellow for Morahan
Reds fullback Luke Morahan has been issued with an off-field yellow card for his tip-tackle on Chiefs centre Sonny Bill Williams during the Reds 42-27 victory over the Chiefs on Sunday.
Morahan was adjudged to have contravened Law 10.4 (j) Dangerous Lifting Tackle, Lifting a Player from the ground and either dropping or driving that Player’s head and/or upper body into the ground whilst the Player’s feet are off the ground is dangerous play.
Neither referee Marius Jonker nor his two assistants saw which player had made the dangerous tackle, so a penalty was awarded with no player being shown a yellow card.
An off-field yellow card may be issued by the SANZAR citing commissioner for foul play incidents that are very close to, but in his opinion do not meet the red card threshold for citings.
The Reds were grateful that Morahan was able to stay on the field, as the fullback made three crucial and possibly try-saving tackles after the event.
