Pocock remains doubtful

Wallaby flank David Pocock remains a doubtful starter ahead of the Brumbies' Round Four Super Rugby encounter with the Hurricanes.

Pocock, one of two players under injury cloud, remains the only doubt – after Wallaby centre Pat McCabe was cleared for the trip to Wellington on Friday.

Both players left the field during the Brumbies' 27-14 win over the Western Force in Perth at the weekend, amid fears they may have suffered recurrences of injuries that ended their 2013 seasons.

However, a second series of scans on Monday cleared McCabe of any serious damage.

The Brumbies were concerned the 25-year-old McCabe had suffered further damage to his neck, which he broke during the Wallabies' year-end of 2012 and re-fractured against the British and Irish Lions last year.

"It was just a stiffness from getting his neck stretched a little bit," Brumbies coach Stephen Larkham told the Australian Associated Press.

"He's got a little bit of damage to the muscle around there, but he's looking good for this weekend."

While concerns remain that Pocock has damaged his reconstructed knee, he has reportedly shown positive signs of mobility since the weekend.

He will undergo further scans later on Monday, which will be sent to the Brisbane surgeon who operated on his knee.

Larkham said he wouldn't conjecture who might cover for Pocock at No.7 for the Hurricanes clash in Wellington until he'd received the results from his scans.

The Brumbies claimed their first win of the 2014 Super Rugby season, defeating the Force 27-14 in Perth.

Brumbies captain Ben Mowen said it was an important victory.

"Any game against a local rival is important, it means a lot to get these wins," Mowen said.

"I don't think people who come here give the force enough credit. They've taken some enormous scalps in the last few years and it's a credit to this team to leave with a win.

"The Force are never easy, particularly in the west, and I'm extremely pleased with the way we executed our game plan."
