Sharks ready for rest disruptions
The Sharks look set to rest some of their key players this week, but fullback SP Marais feels that it will be a positive thing for the youngsters coming through.
The South African Rugby Union's policy of player management has called for the Unions to rest key Springboks in this a World Cup year.
The Sharks failed to adhere to one of the agreed upon targets by playing the likes of Pat Lambie, Marcell Coetzee and Cobus Reinach for over five games in a row.
This week however, those players look set to earn a well deserved break which will allow some of the younger squad members a chance to show their worth against the Western Force.
For Sharks fullback Marais, it is a perfect opportunity to give some new guys a chance, and he does not feel like there will be much disruption to the team.
"Week in week out we train everybody in different positions," Marais said.
"I don't think it is a massive change for us.
"We all knew that some of the Springboks were going to get a chance to rest, it will not be such a negative thing for us.
"In fact, some of the guys who will get game time are ready to grab it with both hands.
"It is an opportunity for younger guys coming in, like Andre [Esterhuizen] and Stefan [Ungerer] on the bench – they are both very keen for the chance."
Another player who is used to taking his chances when they come around is tighthead prop Lourens Adriaanse, who has mostly been playing a supporting role to Springbok Jannie du Plessis in the front row.
With Du Plessis struggling with a shoulder injury, picked up against the Chiefs last weekend, Adriaanse may find himself in a rare starting berth this weekend.
"Every body is working towards the same goal and it is important when you are getting your opportunity to play your part," the prop said.
"In every game, each player looks to bring his A-game and I think nothing will be different this week."
