Sharks should refund the public
It was by far the worst game in the competition thus far, and possibly in the history of the game, as both sides seemed out of their depth and failed to execute any sort of meaningful attack.
"That was terrible and I am very disappointed. I think we had all the opportunities to win the game but we stuffed it up one chance after the other. The performance is just not good enough and must rate as one of the worst I have ever seen.
"It was so bad that I think our players should refund the public," du Preez said.
The Sharks had ample opportunities inside the Rebels' 22 but failed to take advantage and squandered any and all chances and du Preez feels their discipline let them down.
"It was a complete lack of composure in the last 20 minutes. We have a lot of experienced players in the team and they should show some proper leadership [in the closing stages of a game]. We tried to build some type of momentum in the last 15 minutes [of the game] and scored a try that was overturned because of bad discipline.
"That is something we pride ourselves on. I don't think it's the amount [of penalties you conceded] – we conceded six and they conceded 18 – that matter but rather at what time [of the game it happens] and when they cost you dearly – which it did.
"We had about 20 opportunities in their 22, so we should have converted a lot more," he added.
The Sharks came off a bye week before taking on the Rebels and will now face the daunting task of flying to Argentina to face a Jaguares side that are a different animal in their own backyard.
"The guys were re-energised and I thought it would work out but it didn't. We knew what they were going to do. They targeted us at breakdown time and we got turned over too many times but that is just an attitude thing.
"If heading to Argentina doesn't wake them up, then I don't know what will," du Preez stated.
