Six-Week blow for Canes' All Black
The Hurricanes' season went from bad to worse on Friday, with the news that two of their key players will be sidelined for several weeks.
Their All Black wing Cory Jane and star flank Karl Lowe have both been ruled out till at least July – following injuries they suffered in the Hurricanes' 25-37 loss to the Brumbies on Friday.
The loss – their third in the last five weeks – continued the Hurricanes slide, as they dropped out of the top half of the table after a promising start to the season.
Both Jane and Lowe were assessed by the Hurricanes medical team on Saturday.
Jane left the field in the 24th minute of the Hurricanes match and had scans on his ankle Saturday, which revealed a high ankle sprain.
He is expected to be out for approximately six weeks.
It is not the same ankle he was ruled out with before the Crusaders game in April.
Lowe injured the medial ligament of the right knee.
The injury was sustained in the final minutes of the game.
Lowe he is expected to be on the side line for four to six weeks.
Hurricanes coach Mark Hammett said it is "disappointing" for both Jane and Lowe.
"However, we have been in this situation before and it means the other guys need to step up, which they will do," Hammett said.
"Our medical team will monitor the two closely and work with them to get them back on the park when ready."
