Steyn, Horne both cited
Springbok Francois Steyn and Wallaby Rob Horne were both cited, following the spiteful encounter between the Sharks and Waratahs in Durban at the weekend.
The Sharks won 32-10 in a game that saw the Waratahs issued a yellow card and home team captain Bismarck du Plessis pleading with the referee to take action against the 'repeated punching' by the Tahs.
Steyn was cited for alleged foul play. He is alleged to have contravened Law 10.4 (e): Dangerous tackling.
The incident, which took place in the 24th minute of the encounter at the Kings Park Stadium, happened when Steyn made contact with Waratahs' player Kurtley Beale.
The referee for the match, Mike Fraser, awarded a penalty for the incident.
Upon further review of the match footage, the citing commissioner deemed in his opinion the incident had met the red card threshold for foul play.
The citing is to be considered in the first instance by SANZAR judicial officer Jannie Lubbe.
The Waratahs player, Horne, has also been cited for foul play.
Horne is alleged to have contravened Law 10.4 (a): Punching or striking and 10.4 (e) Dangerous tackling.
His citings is the result of an incident when he made contact with Steyn in the 16th minute of the match.
